In the verdict over 2001 Indian Parliament attack case Supreme Court of India stated "the collctive conscience of the society will be satisfied if the capital punishment is awarded to the offender" as a reason to hang the convict Afsal Guru.
Here the question comes that on what ground courts are declairing its judgements. Activist Arundhati Roy asks "who crafted our collective conscience on the parliament attack case? Could it have been the facts gleaned from the newspapers? The films we saw on TV?"
